Biography

In 1963 he graduated from an eight-year school [2] , worked on the collective farm of the village of Golin. Then he studied at an evening school (11 classes), which he graduated in 1967 [3] . At the same time he worked in the Kalush repair and road department of the Broshnivsky woodworking plant [2] .

In 1970 he entered the full-time department of the Moscow Theological Seminary .

After taking the rank in 1972, he switched to extramural studies, graduating from the seminary in 1976.

On September 21, 1973, Archbishop Vladimir (Sabodan) [4] was ordained a priest [3] , after which he served as a clergyman in the Ivano-Frankivsk diocese of the Ukrainian exarchate of the Russian Orthodox Church.

In 1989, he joined the revived Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church . For leaving the schism, it was banned in priesthood and subsequently, by decision of the Bishops' Council of the Russian Orthodox Church, he was deprived of the holy dignity [5] .

On April 28, 1990, one of the first clergymen of the Russian Orthodox Church accepted the rank of bishop of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church with the title "Chernivtsi and Bukovinsky." The consecration was performed by the archbishop of Lviv and Ternopil, John (Bodnarchuk) , the bishop of Ternopil and Buchansky, Vasily (Bodnarchuk) , the bishop of Ivano-Frankivsk and Kolomyisky, Andrei (Abramchuk) [5] .

June 5-6, 1990 participated in the All-Ukrainian Organizational Council, at which the Ukrainian Orthodox Church was proclaimed the Patriarchate and the “Patriarch of Kiev and All Ukraine” Mstislav (Skrypnik) was elected [3] .

On June 10, 1990, he served the first Divine Liturgy in Bukovina [3] .

September 2, 1990 in the Park of Culture and Rest. The first Divine Liturgy in Ukrainian was organized and sent to Taras Shevchenko in Chernivtsi (a memorial sign was erected at the place of its holding by the clergy and believers of the UOC-KP) [3] .

January 13, 1991 received state registration in Bukovina [3] .

On June 25, 1992, he was a member of the UOC “Unification Council” as bishop of Chernivtsi and Bukovinsky, at which, together with the UAOC, it became part of the newly formed Kiev Patriarchate, while the legitimacy of his ordination was not recognized.

On December 16, 1992, his second hierarch took place, which was performed by: “Metropolitan of Kiev and all Ukraine” Filaret (Denisenko), “Metropolitan of Pereyaslavsky and Sicheslavsky” Anthony (Masendich) , “Bishop of Vinnitsa and Kirovograd” Sofroniy (Vlasov) . Then he was endowed with the title of " archbishop " [5] .

October 21-22, 1993 was a member of the Local Council of the UOC-KP, at which Vladimir (Romanyuk) was elected Patriarch [3] .

In 1994, through the efforts of Archbishop Daniel and the leadership of the Chernivtsi National University, the philosophical and theological faculty of the Chernivtsi National University was opened, the theological department of which operates in the structure of the UOC-KP [3] .

September 20, 1994 was elevated to the rank of Metropolitan [2] .

In July 1995, together with a delegation of clergy and laity of his diocese, he participated in the scandalous funeral of the head of the UOC-KP Vladimir (Romanyuk) [3] .

October 20-21, 1995 participated in the work of the Local Council, at which Filaret was elected "Patriarch of Kiev and All Russia-Ukraine".

In August 1996, he led the liturgy on Mount Hoverla, dedicated to the fifth anniversary of the independence of Ukraine . There, consecration of capsules with the earth of all territorial-administrative units of Ukraine took place, and the flag and a memorial cross were consecrated. In the same year, a delegation of the Chernivtsi-Bukovinian diocese held a service in Khersones on the ruins of a church in which Equal-to-the-Apostles Prince Vladimir was baptized [3] .

October 9-10, 2001 was a member of the Local Council for the canonization of saints [3] .

In 2002, Chernivtsi National University with a degree in Law with a qualification of Master of Laws.

On June 19, 2003 he graduated from the State Academy of Leading Cadres of Culture and Arts with a degree in Fine and Decorative Arts with the qualification of an expert art historian [3] .

July 15, 2004 participated in the work of the Local Council, which was held on the occasion of the adoption of the Charter on the management of the UOC-KP.

On July 28, 2005, in connection with the division of the Chernivtsi diocese of the UOC-KP, his title was changed to "Metropolitan of Chernivtsi and Kitsmansky" [2] . After a short time, the title "Metropolitan of Chernivtsi and Bukovinsky" was returned to him [5] . It is noteworthy that the ruling bishop of the Kitsmansky diocese of the UOC-KP bears the title "Chernovetsky and Kitsmansky" [6]

July 11, 2008 was a member of the Local Council on the occasion of the celebration of the 900th anniversary of St. Michael’s Golden-Domed Monastery in Kiev and the 1020th anniversary of the baptism of Kievan Rus [3] .

During his leadership of the structures of the UOC-KP in Bukovina, 80 parishes and two monasteries were created; dedicated to their needs priests. More than 30 churches and about 10 chapels were built, the premises of the diocesan administration in Chernivtsi, two monuments were erected, the territory of the church of St. Paraskeva Srpska in Chernivtsi was ennobled [3] .

In September 2011, during the visit of the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia to Bukovina, he declared: “If we strictly adhere to all the canons, then our Patriarch should be the Patriarch of Constantinople, not Moscow,” and noted the presence of 400 parishes in Bukovina that “can never come off from mother Moscow. ” “If these 400 parishes were in the Kiev Patriarchate, then Cyril simply would not have anyone to go to, make certain indignations, insults, provocations, and insults. But there is resentment - we are all offended ” [7] .

After the death of the Primate of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Metropolitan Volodymyr (Sabodan) ordered the funeral services for the deceased in all the parishes of his diocese, noting: “I can confidently say that the Beatitude was not an enemy of either the Ukrainian state or the Ukrainian Local Church. In the circumstances, and wanting to save the world at all costs, he simply did not have the strength to break his own environment ” [4] .
