Content

History

The group began as a theater ensemble “7:84”, and made the first recordings in 1982, when it began performing in clubs and pubs in London and took its current name The Flying Pickets. The original lineup was performed by Brian Hibbard , Ken Gregson, David Brett , Red Stripe, Rick Lloyd and Gareth Williams. In 1989, they participated in the recording of musical material for the Royal Stratford Theater in London. Their most famous hit, “Only You,” is 5 weeks was on the 1st place in the UK from December 10, 1983 to January 14, 1984. This song was written the year before by the British musician Vince Clark for his band Yazoo , but became more popular in the acapella performance of The Flying Pickets [1] . Rick Lloyd received the BAFTA TV Award (1987), and the founder of the group and its lead singer Brian Hibbard was awarded the BAFTA Cymru Award in 2006 (he died June 17, 2012) [2] . Singer and actor David Brett starred in films, including the role of (Dedalus Diggle) in the movie Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001) [3] [4] .
