The lake is located southeast of Mount Ulvarsfetl . The river Seljadalsau flows into Havravatn, and the Ulfarsau river flows out of the lake.
In the waters of the lake are found trout , char , salmon .
To the south-east of Lake Havravatn there is a smaller lake Langavatn .
