Title

It received its name from the settlement of the royal rangers , which was located on this territory in the 17th century [3] [4] .

There is a legend about this reservoir, its reliability is in question. In the XVIII century, in the vicinity of the pond was a wild park, which served as a hunting ground. From time to time, these places were visited by Empress Catherine II . During one of her visits, a huntsman made friends with a maid of honor, whom he loved at first sight, the love was mutual. On the day of the empress’s departure, the maid of honor told Catherine about her love, but she gave her an ultimatum: either the service of the empress, or marriage. The huntsman asked the maid of honor to stay with him, but she went with a court to St. Petersburg . The next morning, the huntsmen were found dead in the pond; he ended his life by suicide [5] .

Description

The reservoir has an oval shape. Its area is 1.5 hectares, the average depth is 2 meters, length is 180 meters, width is up to 100 meters [6] . Food is provided by surface water and city water supply . The banks are reinforced with reinforced concrete slabs. The drain of the reservoir probably passed along the Okhotnichy Stream to the Yauzu River [6] .

In 2008-2009, work was carried out to improve the reservoir - it was cleaned of debris, the bottom was strengthened, pedestrian walkways were paved, and the territory adjacent to the pond was greened [7] . A decorative island was created in the center of the pond, on which a fountain with a backlight was installed [8] . In summer, on the pond you can see flowering nymphaea water lilies grown by special technology in shallow warm artificial reservoirs in the large rose garden of Sokolniki Park [9] .
