Marie Leonard Charles Nizard ( fr. Marie Léonard Charles Nisard ; January 10, 1808, Chatillon-sur-Seine - July 16, 1890) - French philologist and scientific writer, editor and translator of Latin texts and historian of literature.

The deputy minister in the Ministry of Police in 1850, was engaged in the identification and seizure of various literature, having managed to collect a large collection of popular illegal books. He released the first historical study on this issue, as well as several studies on the vocabulary and etymology of Parisian jargon . In 1875 he was elected a member of the Academy of Inscriptions and Fine Literature .
Brother of the writer Desiree Nizar and scientist Auguste Nizar . Major works: Camera lucida, portraits contemporains et tableaux de genre (Paris, 1845), Triumvirat liltéraire au XVI siècle (1852; about Scaliger, Lipsius and Casobone), Les ennemis de Voltaire (1858), Histoire des livres populaires depuis le XV stècle "(1854)," Les gladiateurs de la république des lettres au XV, XVI et XVII siècle "(1860)," Des chansons populaires chez les anciens et chez les Français "(1866)," Etude sur le langage populaire de Paris et de la banlieue "(1872).
