Not to be confused with the icing warning device .
Icing indicator - a device informing about the beginning and end of icing [1] .
General view
Icing indicators are traditionally simple devices for directly observing the formation of ice or frost on them due to frost , fog , ice rain , etc. Usually they are an aluminum corner with a shelf width of 40-50 mm and a length of 300-400 mm. To facilitate mounting and dismounting, one of the shelves is provided with grooves, as shown in the figure [2] .
Usage Method
In meteorological observations, the icing indicator is usually mounted on a special bracket fixed 2 meters from the surface of the earth and located on the outside of the meteorological booth . The controlled indicator plane is positioned horizontally in order to facilitate freezing of precipitation [3] .
After each fixation of glaciation, the indicator is replaced by a new one, cleared of ice deposits, but having an ambient temperature. The latter is necessary to create conditions for immediate use [3] .
