History
In 1993, a constitution was adopted in Andorra defining the country as a sovereign democratic state, and in 1995, the United States established diplomatic relations with Andorra. The countries have developed good relations based on common values, including the promotion of democracy in the world and respect for human rights. Since 2000, Andorra has been participating in the Fulbright Exchange Program . The two countries also signed the Bilateral Work Agreement on the maintenance of employees of diplomatic missions and consular posts appointed to carry out official duties in the respective countries, and will also soon conclude an agreement on the sharing of confiscated proceeds and means of crime. Andorra supports American foreign policy and votes for American candidates in international organizations.
The US ambassador to Spain also represents the country's interests in Andorra. The US Consul General in Barcelona is responsible for coordinating cooperation with Andorra, he regularly visits this country with diplomatic goals.
Trade
The United States does not have significant trade with this country, the level of investment is limited. In 2012, a new investment law was adopted in the country, opening the country to foreign investment: investors were given the opportunity to start a business in their property without state participation. The investment climate in the country has changed significantly after these legislative changes, which led to the liberalization of the economy.
Andorra participates in a visa-free entry program that allows citizens of participating countries to visit the United States without a visa in certain areas of activity or for tourism purposes for stays of 90 days or less.
