Belenky, Max Lvovich

Max Lvovich Belenky ( April 10, 1911 , Lepel of the Vitebsk province - December 25, 1965 , Riga ) - Soviet pharmacologist. Honored Scientist of the Latvian SSR (1961). Corresponding Member of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR (1961).

Biography

Born in a teacher’s family. In 1933 he graduated from the 2nd Leningrad Medical Institute , studied in graduate school and worked as an assistant at the Department of Pharmacology.

During the years of World War II he served as an army toxicologist.

After the war, he returned to his previous job at the Leningrad 2nd Medical Institute , since 1947 - assistant professor of pharmacology. He defended his doctoral dissertation in 1952.

Since 1952 - Head of the Department of Pharmacology at the Riga Medical Institute .

The author of more than 100 scientific papers, including 2 monographs devoted mainly to the pharmacology of carotid receptors, cholinergic and adrenergic processes; co-author of a textbook on pharmacology.

Under his leadership, the adrenergic properties of anomorphine , the cholinergic component in the action of phenamine , the versatile effect of aminophenylindanedione on the nervous system were identified and studied.

He was a member of the board of the All-Union Pharmacological Society, a member of the editorial board of the journal "Pharmacology and Toxicology", co-editor of the editorial department of "Pharmacology" of the 2nd edition of the Big Medical Encyclopedia.
