Biography
Robert Butigny was born July 24, 1927 in the commune of Villeneuve-le-Roi , department of Val de Marne .
Thanks to a series of successful performances, he won the right to defend the country's honor at the 1948 Summer Olympics in London , participated in the standings of single canoes at a distance of 10,000 meters - he finished third in the final, losing to athletes from Czechoslovakia and Canada, and thereby won a bronze medal .
In 1950, Butigny attended the World Championships in Copenhagen, from where he brought silver and gold dignity awards, won alone at a thousand and ten thousand meters, respectively. Being one of the leaders of the French national team, he successfully qualified for the 1952 Olympic Games in Helsinki , where, however, he was not able to become one of the winners, in the decisive ten-kilometer race of single canoes he showed the eighth result at the finish.
After the Helsinki Olympics, Robert Butigny soon decided to end his career as a professional athlete, giving way to young French rowers.
