Biography

He studied in Munich , Heidelberg and Berlin , in 1865-1871 he managed his estate in Oldenburg and in 1872 he was rehabilitated (became a doctor of science) at the College of Agricultural Sciences in Vienna . In 1870-1871 he was a professor of economics and statistics at the Royal Polytechnic School in Stuttgart (now the University of Stuttgart), in 1877 he was appointed professor of economics at the Aachen Polytechnic and in the same year he began to teach in Vienna with the rank of extraordinary professor, in 1878 he transferred to University of Bern at the Faculty of Law.

As a scientist, he dealt a lot with the history of economics (mainly from the 17th-19th centuries), criticized the views of Adam Smith .
