Born in Ovruch . He graduated from the Sedletskaya gymnasium and the Petrograd Polytechnic Institute , electrochemical department (1918). He worked as an analytical chemist in the scientific institutions of Petrograd (Leningrad): in the Commission for the Study of Natural Productive Forces of Russia at the Academy of Sciences, KEPS (1918-1932), at the Geochemical Institute (1932-1934). Long-term employee A. E. Fersman . In 1921, together with him, he wrote the book “The State Peterhof Lapidary Plant in Its Past and Present.”
From 1934 - in Moscow: at LIGEM - IGN of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, then (from 1953) at LAMGRE (Laboratory of Mineralogy and Geochemistry of Rare Elements).
Candidate of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences (1935, without defending a thesis). The author of works on chemical mineralogy, analytical chemistry of rare elements.
Winner of the Lenin Prize in 1957 for the development of an alkaline method for producing aluminum from nepheline, made in the early 1930s.
