Biography
“Godkiller” was created in 1994 in Monte Carlo (Monaco) [1] as a one-man band with the only multi-instrumentalist member Duke Satanael [3] (real name is Benjamin Labarrère ). Labarrer previously participated in the French black metal band Kristallnacht as a keyboard player and drummer, and also took part in the Uranium 235 project under the pseudonym Nuclear Exterminator for some time [2] .
The first success of the project came with the release of the album " The Rebirth of the Middle Ages " (1996), which was sold in more than 5,000 copies. Initially, the music was performed in death and black metal styles, however, by the time the debut full-length album “ The End of the World ” (1998) was released, the musical style of “Godkiller” began to gradually change under the influence of “ Samael ” [3] . The second album of the collective “ Deliverance ”, released in 2000, received positive reviews from music critics [4] [5] .
After the release of the second album, Duke Satanael minimized musical activity within the framework of Godkiller, practically ceasing to record new releases [1] . Only in 2012 did the musician post on the group’s official website the first two demos of the group to prevent their paid distribution that was not consistent with him [6] .
