Clayto ( dr. Greek Κλειτω ), in some translations of Clito or Curse , according to the dialogues of Plato, Timaeus and Critias , is the wife of Poseidon , daughter of Evenor and Leucippus [1] .

Description

“At the very center stood the inaccessible holy temple of Cleito and Poseidon. They laid out the entire external surface of the temple, except for the acroteria, with silver, and the acroteria with gold; inside the gaze was an ivory ceiling, all adorned with gold, silver and orichalcum, and the walls, pillars and floors were entirely lined with orichalcum”

- Plato , Critius

Plato’s “critique” says that Poseidon received an island from Zeus, and upon arriving at him he met an orphaned and lonely girl, Cleito, falling in love with her, he took her as his wife [2] [1] . The hill on which they lived, Poseidon fenced in five circles at an equal distance from each other, consisting of two earthen ramparts and three water ditches. Further, the sea god created two sources: one with warm, the other with cold water, providing the island with rich vegetation. Cleito is indicated as the first queen of Atlantis, Bachofen, referring to this suggested that initially on the island matriarchy could exist. Poseidon and Clayto five times gave birth to a pair of male twins. The first pair of twins were Atlant and Gadir, however, it was Atlant who was named the eldest and he got the island from his father and mother to control, which will be named after him [3] . Other pairs of twins were Amphiereus - Eemon, Mnesey - Autochton, Elasippus - Mestor and Azaes - Diaprep [4] .
