Biography

Philippe Renault was born on November 23, 1962 in Creteil , department of Val de Marne . He began to actively engage in rowing in early childhood, underwent training under the guidance of his own father Marcel Renault , a formerly famous rower, trained with his older brother Eric , who later also became a successful rower. He was a member of the Boulogne Billancourt sports club.

He achieved his first serious success at the adult international level in 1984, when he became a member of the French national team and, thanks to a series of successful appearances, was awarded the right to defend the country's honor at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles . He participated in the single canoe program at distances of 500 and 1000 meters, in the first case he reached the final stage and finished fourth in the final race, in the second case he was disqualified in the first race.

Four years later, Renault qualified for the Olympic Games in Seoul , where, together with teammate Joel Betten, he won a bronze medal in the double crew program at five hundred meters, losing only to teams from the USSR and Poland in the final.

After two Olympics, Philippe Renault remained in the main team of the French national team and continued to take part in major international regattas. So, in 1989, he visited the World Championships in Bulgarian Plovdiv, from where he brought two bronze medals won at five hundred meters among twos and among fours. In the 1991 season, he represented the country at the home world championship in Paris, in the fours at a half-kilometer distance he took silver here, letting forward only the crew from the Soviet Union.
