The great officers of the Empire ( fr . Grands officiers de l'Empire ) - a cohort of senior officers who were awarded the honorary military titles in France since the time of Napoleon .
On May 18, 1804, the French Republic ceased to exist under the new Constitution promulgated by the Senate . Napoleon was proclaimed Emperor of the French. And France is now called the French Empire . Article 48 of the 6th chapter of the same Constitution revived the rank of marshal ( fr. Maréchal d'Empire ), colonel-general ( fr. Colonel général ) and the general inspector ( fr. Inspecteur général ). This whole system was essentially a rethinking of the system of the High Crown officials that existed at the royal court before the revolution.
