Son of Francois I de Luxembourg , Viscount de Martigues, and Louise of Savoy.
He inherited significant possessions from his mother in the lands of Vaud and Chablé , but lost Evian , Belmon , Ternier and Vevey as a result of the Berne conquest in 1536. He tried to achieve restitution of possessions, seeking support from his second cousin, King Francis I , and then to Henry II , the allies Swiss. In 1547, the Berne government agreed to return to Luxembourg the possessions of Belmon, Ternier, and Vevey on the condition of taking a vassal oath.
