Osor Dugarovich Budaev (there is a spelling of the name Otsor, Otsar; middle names in various documents - Dugarovich, Budaevich) - a Buryat Buddhist monk, artist, researcher of traditional Buddhist art. An employee of the Leningrad Museum of the History of Religion . Repressed in 1937 .

Biography
Osor Budaev was born in 1886 or 1887 in the Suduntuy district of the Chita district of the Transbaikal region . He was brought up in the family of his uncle, at 11 years old he entered as a novice in the Aginsky datsan . In 1904 he left for Urga , where the Dalai Lama was at that time, and studied with Tibetan artists who accompanied the Dalai Lama. In Urga, he met with Agvan Dorzhiev , also a Buryat by origin, who was a member of the closest circle of the Dalai Lama's close associates and provided his protection to the young man. He studied with Chinese painters, mastered the art of woodcarving, received skills in the design of Buddhist books. He returned to Buryatia as a recognized master; in 1912, at the invitation of Dorzhiev, he went to St. Petersburg to participate in the design of the interior decoration of the Kalachakra temple . According to his sketches, in particular, stained glass shades were made in the central hall [1] . He worked together with Nicholas Roerich and others. In 1915 he returned to Buryatia; was drafted into the army. After demobilization, he lived in the Aginsky datsan. He collaborated with the Buryat Scientific Committee (Buruchok) , participated in its historical and ethnological expeditions. Among the works of this period are both canonical religious painting and household sketches.
In 1930, A. Dorzhiev was again summoned to Leningrad. He painted images for the altar of a Buddhist temple, participated in the ritual performances of the mystery tzam ; at the same time since 1932 he worked at the Museum of the History of Religion (MIR), participated in the creation of the exposition of the Buddhism-Lamaism department. Repeatedly went on business trips to Buryatia. After the death of the Director of Peace , who patronized him, V. G. Bogoraz-Tan (d. May 10, 1936 ), was dismissed; For some time he worked as an artist at the Museum of the Revolution.
He was arrested on February 23, 1937, and convicted on August 29 by a visiting session of the Military Collegium of the USSR Supreme Court under Article 58 of the Criminal Code of the RSFSR 1a (“betrayal of the motherland”), 8 (terrorist acts), 9 (damage to state property for counter-revolutionary purposes) and 11 (preparation for such actions). Shot the same day. Rehabilitated in 1959 .
One of the students of Osor Budaev was Danzan Dondokov [2] . He co-authored a number of paintings, including The Wheel of Sansara, one of the most famous paintings.
