The son of Charles Joseph Dumonsho, a well-known conductor and cellist in Strasbourg. He began to study music with his father, then went to Paris, where he privately studied piano at Joseph Wollfl . In 1805, the Cossack Officer opera ( fr. L'Officier cosaque ), written by Dumonsho in collaboration with L. Djanella, was successfully staged at the Saint-Martin’s Theater of Paris Gate. Then he returned to Strasbourg for some time, and from 1809 he lived and worked in Lyon. He wrote 33 piano sonatas, several sonatas for violin (some of them are dedicated to Rodolphe Kreutzer , with whom Dumonsho made friends in the Paris period).
