Biography

In 1959 he graduated from the History Department of Yerevan State University.

  • 1968-1972 - Head of the museum complex of the Erebuni fortress temple, led the restoration of the Erebuni fortress, the Garni temple, the house-museum of Hovhannes Tumanyan,
  • 1973-1978 - in the apparatus of the Ministry of Culture of the USSR.
  • 1978-1985 - Head of the cultural and restoration institutions of the Armenian SSR,
  • 1988-1991 - Head of the Main Directorate for the Protection and Maintenance of Cultural and Historical Monuments under the Council of Ministers of the Armenian SSR,
  • 1992-1995 - Assistant Vice President of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia.

Then - the founding director of the Museum-Institute of the Armenian Genocide.

The initiator of many museum scientific expositions.

Awards and titles

He was awarded the Order of the Badge of Honor (08/07/1981). In 2002, he was awarded the Gold Medal of the International Fund Fridtjof Nansen, and in 2003 - the Movses Khorenatsi Medal.
