Camponotus libanicus (lat.) Is a species of wood ants of the genus Camponotus from the subfamily Formicina ( Formicidae ) [1] .

Distribution

Western Palaearctic: Greece , Israel , Iran , Cyprus, Lebanon , Turkey [1] [2] .

Description

Wood ants are brownish-black. Medium in size, workers about 5 mm long (soldiers up to 1 cm). It differs in the following signs: black or brown-black stings, tendril scapus and legs; occipital angles and scape with spaced hairs; petiol rough sculptured, matte; the rest of the body is covered with numerous spaced hairs; the petiol is thick, the body is densely punctured, the dorsal surface of the mesosome is only with a methanotic suture. The stalk between the breast and the abdomen consists of one segment ( petiolus ) bearing a vertical scale [1] .

Systematics

The species was first described in 1881 and included in the subgenus Myrmentoma along with such species as Camponotus boghossiani , Camponotus aktaci and Camponotus aegaeus . The species name C. libanicus is given by the name of the country where the type series ( Lebanon ) was found [1] [3] .
