Biography

Milan Janich was born on June 14, 1957 in the city of Bachka-Palanca .

He achieved his first serious success at the adult international level in 1978, when he joined the Yugoslav national team and played at the home world championships in Belgrade, where he received a silver medal in single kayaks at a distance of 1000 meters and became the champion at a distance of 10,000 meters. A year later, he won three silver medals at the Mediterranean Games in Split: singles per kilometer and five kilometers, as well as deuces per kilometer. In addition, he went to the world championship in German Duisburg, defending the championship title alone at ten kilometers.

Thanks to a series of successful performances, he won the right to defend the country's honor at the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow - he participated here in the lone program at five hundred and thousand meters, in both disciplines he made it to the final stage of the tournament, but could not get into the number of winners, he finished in the decisive races fourth and seventh respectively.

In 1981, he attended the World Championships in Nottingham, England, from where he brought the silver dignity award won in lone kayaks ten thousand meters. The following season, in the same discipline, he became the champion at the world championship in Belgrade, a year later at the similar competitions in Finnish Tampere he took silver.

Being one of the leaders of the Yugoslav national team, he successfully qualified for the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles - he won a silver medal alone at a thousand meters, losing to the New Zealander Alan Thompson in the final. In addition, he started at five hundred meters, but in this case he showed only the ninth result at the finish line. For all that, the countries of the socialist camp boycotted these competitions for political reasons, and many of the strongest athletes from the GDR, Eastern Europe and the USSR simply were not here.

After completing his sports career, Janic worked as a kayaking and canoeing coach, including coaching his three children, Natasha , Micho and Stiepana , who also became quite famous rowers, speaking in addition to Yugoslavia for Serbia, Croatia and Hungary.

He died on January 1, 2003 in Belgrade .
