According to the United States Census Bureau , the total area of the parish is 2,833,463 km 2 , of which 2,755,763 km 2 are land and 80,290 km 2 or 2,800% are water bodies.

According to the 2010 census [1] , the parish has 192,768 residents comprising 73,996 households and 50,490 families . The population density is 66.00 people per km 2 . In the parish there are 75,995 residential buildings, with a building density of about 27.00 buildings per km 2 . Racial composition of the population: white - 70.80%, African - Americans - 24.90%, Native Americans ( Indians ) - 1.10%, Asians - 0.50%, Hawaiians - 0.00%, representatives of other races - 0.90 %, representatives of two or more races - 1.90%. Hispanics accounted for 2.60% of the population, regardless of race .
As part of 35.60% of the total number of households , children under the age of 18 live, 52.60% of households are married couples living together, 14.70% of households are single women without a spouse, 28.50% of households households are not related to families , 24.00% of households consist of one person, 8.90% of households consist of elderly people (65 years and older) living alone. The average household size is 2.61 people and the average family size is 3.11 people.
