Club career
In 2007, Jorge won the first season of the Sueño MLS reality show hosted by MLS in order to identify the best among undiscovered young talents for further training at league academies, which implies for them the prospect of becoming professional players, for which he received the nickname Sueño (from Spanish - “dream”), and joined the Chivas USA Academy [2] .
In July 2007, Chivas USA signed a professional contract with Jorge [3] . In his match against the New York Red Bulls , he made his MLS debut. On May 15, 2008, in a duel against DC United , Jorge scored his first goal for Chivas [4] .
In 2014, Villafagna was traded to the Portland Timbers . On May 18, in his match against Columbus Crew he made his debut for a new team, replacing Maximigliano Urruti in the second half [5] . On July 5, in a duel against the Los Angeles Galaxy , Jorge scored his first goal for the Timbers [6] . In 2015, Villafanya helped the team win the MLS Cup for the first time in history.
After winning the MLS Cup, Villafanya was sold to the Mexican Santos Laguna [7] , the amount of the transaction, according to journalists, was just over $ 1 million [8] . On January 10, in a match against Leon , he made his debut in the Mexican Example [9] . In 2018, Jorge helped the club win the championship . In the summer of that year, he returned to the Portland Timbers.
International Career
In 2007, as part of the U.S. youth team, Villafanya took part in the youth world championship in Egypt . At the tournament, he played in matches against the teams of Germany [10] , Cameroon [11] and South Korea [12] .
On January 25, 2017, U.S. national team coach Bruce Arena challenged Villafaña to the team’s training camp ahead of friendly matches with Serbia on January 29 and Jamaica on February 3 [13] . In a match with Serbia, replacing in the 69th minute instead of Greg Garza , Jorge made his debut for the first national team [14] . In the match with Jamaica, he first came out in the starting lineup of the Americans [15] .
In 2017, Villafagna won the CONCACAF Gold Cup . In the tournament, he played in matches against the national teams of Panama [16] , Nicaragua [17] , Costa Rica [18] and Jamaica [19] .
