According to the United States Census Bureau , the total area of the parish is 3,817,664 km 2 , of which 2,766.123 km 2 are land and 1,051.541 km 2 or 28,000% are water bodies.

According to the 2000 census [1], the territory of the parish has 89,974 residents comprising 32,057 households and 24,299 families . The population density is 32.00 people per km 2 . In the parish there are 35,045 residential buildings, with a building density of about 12.00 buildings per km 2 . Racial composition of the population: white - 82.85%, African - Americans - 12.61%, Native Americans ( Indians ) - 2.30%, Asians - 0.67%, Hawaiians - 0.02%, representatives of other races - 0.58 %, representatives of two or more races - 0.97%. Hispanics made up 1.43% of the population, regardless of race .
Of the total number of households , 37.80% are children under the age of 18, 59.10% of households are married couples living together, 12.40% of households are single women without a spouse, 24.20% of households households are not related to families , 19.60% of households consist of one person, 7.80% of households consist of elderly people (65 years and older) living alone. The average household size is 2.75 people and the average family size is 3.17 people.
