History
Early History
Since the retreat of the glacier (the end of the Stone Age ), according to numerous archaeologists, there are permanent settlements in the area of the city. So, fragments of settlements from Hallstad culture, fragments of the period of Roman rule and Romanized Celtic villages were discovered.
The name “Tölz” ( German: Tölz ) (originally in the form of tolnze ) appears in documents at the end of the 12th century .
The Third Reich Period
During the rule of the Third Reich , namely, since 1937 , the school housed the school of junior officers ( SS junkers ) [1] . Also in the city there was one of the branches of the Dachau concentration camp , in which the SS junkers were trained, and the centralbauleitung ( German Zentralbauleitung ) - the main building of the administration. [2]
Subsequently, the school staff served as the basis for the creation of the 38th SS Grenadier Division Nibelungen .
In the period from 1945 to 1991, the building of the former school of junior officers of the SS was the base of the 1st battalion of the 10th group of special forces of the US Army.
