He was the son of Palatine Count . Historical sources first mentioned in 1193 as the heir of his father. The murder of Philip Schwabsky committed June 21, 1208 in Bamberg (according to medieval sources, with a sword cut his carotid artery). Various legendary stories are connected with this event, but its real reasons are unknown. He was considered to be accomplices to the Margrave of Heinrich of Istria and his brother, Bishop Egbert of Bamberg, perhaps because they contributed to Otto's flight. He was declared deprived of the protection of the laws as a murderer. Caught up on the Danube , he was killed on May 7, 1209 in Oberndorf near Kelheim by the detachment of Heinrich Calden; The Duke Louis of Bavaria destroyed his fortress and razed his castle, Wittelsbach, to the ground. The head of the corpse was cut off and thrown into the Danube, and the body was kept in a barrel for many years, but in the end the monks from Indersdorf stole it and buried its remains.
