History
The army of the Italian kingdom entered the war without domestic anti-tank grenades. Only in 1942 two samples were developed: the high-explosive Breda Mod. 42 and incendiary OTO Mod. 42.
Device
The idea of the design appeared after studying the experience of military operations, during which the soldiers of the Italian army tried to get an incendiary grenade by combining conventional grenades arr. 1935 with bottles of flammable liquid.
In the upper part of the device resulting from these surveys is the fuse of OTO Mod grenades . 35 , which, through the thread on it, is attached to an aluminum tube, and that, in turn, to a glass container containing a combustible mixture for a flamethrower and gasoline.
During use, a flammable liquid spreads on the target or as a result of mechanical destruction of the crashed tank, and ignites after the ignition is triggered.
It was recommended that the grenade be thrown at the locations of the engine’s air intakes and the viewing slots so that the mixture could spread before ignition.
The disadvantage of a grenade was a small (600 cm³) volume of the flame mixture, in connection with which it was indicated that it was preferred to use in combination with 1-1.5 liters. bottles.
