Biography
Early Years and Family
Royo was born in the Bronx , New York , into an Afro-Cuban family. Due to its origin, the casting director was often said that for some roles he is “not enough black” or “not enough Hispanic” [2] . In 1982-1986, Royo studied at Mount Saint Michael Academy in the Bronx [3] . Royo is married to Jane Choi, they have a daughter, Stella [4] .
Career
He played his first role in 1998 in the film Los Angeles Without a Card . In 1999, he starred in small roles in the series Law and Order and The Third Shift , and in 2000 in the movie Shaft , a remake of the 1971 film of the same name [2] . He also appeared in the 2002 film , based on the novel The Great Gatsby .
Royo is best known for playing the role of drug addict and secret informant Reginald "Bubbles" Cousins in the series " wiretap ", where he played in 2002-2008 [5] [6] . In 2008, Royo starred in small roles in the series Terminator: The Battle for the Future , Heroes and Thinking Like a Criminal .
In 2010, Royo was a guest star in the series " Party Masters ." Later, he starred in three episodes of the series " Edge ", playing a taxi driver in a parallel universe [7] .
In 2012, Royo appeared in the NBC police drama " The Main Suspect " as Santana Cordero, a suspect in the killing of witnesses. In the same year, he starred in the film " Red Tails " in the role of Antoine "Coffee" by Coleman, as well as in the comedy sketch show " Kay and Peel " in the role of the alcoholic father Bully.
In 2013, Royo played a geometry teacher Astaire in the romantic comedy " Exciting Time ", and also voiced two episodes in the animated sitcom " Bob's Diner ." In 2015, he appeared in the drama “ Lila and Eve, ” where Jennifer Lopez and Viola Davis became his partners.
