Irina Ivanovna Filatova (born May 20, 1947 , Murmansk ) is one of the leading Soviet and Russian historians - Africanists , professor , doctor of historical sciences . The author of six books and more than 200 scientific articles.

Biography
In 1965 she entered, and in 1970 graduated from the Institute of Oriental Languages at the Moscow State University. MV Lomonosov specialty "Orientalist-historian, referent-translator", specialization "History of Africa". In 1970-1973 she studied in graduate school at the same institute, having defended her thesis in 1973 on the topic “White minority in colonial and independent Kenya . Transformation of the role of white settlers in socio-economic and political life ” . In 1973–1992 she taught at the Institute of Asian and African Countries at Moscow State University, in 1989–1992 she was the head of the department of African studies. In 1987 she defended her doctoral thesis "The social transformation of the African population of Kenya: problems of the general and the particular . " Since 1992 - Professor.
In 1992-1999 - Professor and Head. Department of History, University of Durban-Westvile ( South Africa ), in 2000-2002 - Director of the School of Social Sciences and the development of the same university. Since 2002 - Honored Professor of the University of Durban-Westvil, then the University of KwaZulu-Natal (South Africa). Since 2004 - Professor of National Research University - Higher School of Economics (Moscow) [1] .

In 1992-1994 - member of the editorial board of the Slavic almanac ( University of Witwatersrand , Johannesburg , South Africa). In 2000–2012, he was a member of the editorial board of the journal Africa Insight (Institute for Africa, Pretoria , South Africa). In 2003–2007, he was a member of the editorial board of the Council of the Humanities Publishing House (Cape Town, South Africa). From 2010 to present - Member of the Board of the Journal of Twentieth Century Communism (University of Manchester)
