Acoustic Institute named after N. N. Andreev RAS

Acoustic Institute named after N. N. Andreev is a research organization engaged in various studies in the field of acoustics. Opened in Moscow in 1953 on the basis of the Acoustic Laboratory of the Physics Institute of the USSR Academy of Sciences. Lebedeva (Lebedev Physical Institute ), the initiator was Academician N. N. Andreev .

Description

The Acoustic Institute is one of the pioneers in the field of research on the propagation of sound waves in the ocean, and the analysis of various oceanic noises.

The scientists of the institute made a contribution to the development and improvement of various samples of hydroacoustic equipment. Among their achievements is the development of the theory of waveguide sound propagation in the ocean, experimental confirmation of the discovery of ultra-long sound propagation in an underwater sound channel, distant zones of acoustic illumination and sound focusing. These achievements had an impact on general concepts about the structure of sound fields in the ocean, on the basis of which the development of hydroacoustic equipment was carried out.

The institute is working on computer modeling of acoustic fields. To monitor the environment and predict negative phenomena in water areas, methods and means of their acoustic monitoring are being developed. Many applied research was carried out on the research vessels Peter Lebedev and Sergey Vavilov. After the collapse of the USSR, the institute worked on such questions: methods for emitting and receiving sound, adaptive methods for processing acoustic signals, processing information in the auditory system of living beings, studying vibrational processes in complex mechanical structures, studying acoustic-hydrodynamic phenomena, methods for resisting noise and vibration, using ultrasound.

The most famous works of scientists of the Acoustic Institute: “Acoustics of the ocean” ( L. M. Brekhovskikh ), “Physics and technology of powerful ultrasound” (L. D. Rosenberg), etc. Most often these monographs are printed in the “ Acoustic Journal ” and others specialized scientific publications.

The institute has full-time and part-time postgraduate studies. Also at the institute there are two councils of the Higher Attestation Commission of the Russian Federation, dealing with the issues of awarding scientific degrees of doctor and candidate of physical, mathematical and technical sciences. The Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT) and the Moscow State Institute of Radio Engineering, Electronics and Automation (MGIREA) opened their base departments here.

In 1991, at the initiative of the Acoustic Institute, the Russian Acoustic Society was created.

Since 1994, the institute has the status of the State Scientific Center, after three years it has confirmed the status.
