Career

The first success in Martin's career was a silver medal won in 1982 at the Central American Youth Shot Put Championships.

A year later, the Cuban won the Pan American Games , sharing the victory in the discus thrower tournament with compatriot Maria Betancourt .

Due to the Cuba boycott of the 1984 and 1988 Olympics, Marten was not able to compete for Olympic medals. Despite this, she continued to perform successfully, defending the title of winner of the Pan American Games in 1987 and winning the Universiade in 1985.

Unsuccessful were only the appearances of the Cuban at the world championships. During his career, he took part in four world championships. In Rome and Tokyo, she took places on the edge of the top ten (9 and 10, respectively), and at the 1993 world championships in Stuttgart and 1995 in Gothenburg, she twice became fourth.

For the first time at the Olympics, Marten performed in 1992 . In qualification, she confidently complied with the standard and took third place with a result of 65.02. In the final round, she threw her disc at 70.06, ahead of all her rivals by more than two meters.

In 1996, Maritsa made an attempt to defend the Olympic title, but with the result of 60.08 did not even go to the main competitions, after which she decided to end her career.
