Biography

All that is known about him is that he was from Augsburg and, together with Andreas Nathan and Bernhard Manlich, arrived in Russia on commercial matters at the beginning of the troubled times. During the riots in Moscow associated with the uprising against False Dmitry , his life, like the life of other foreigners, was threatened. Paerle hid in a house occupied by the Polish embassy, but he was arrested with the rest and spent 18 months in captivity with the Russians. I got freedom only after the conclusion of peace between Vasily Shuisky and Sigismund III [1] . In captivity he wrote a work about False Dmitry, which appeared in German around 1610. Full name: " Description of the journey of Hans Georg Paerle, a native of Augsburg, with Messrs. Andreas Nathan and Bernhard Manlich the Younger, from Krakow to Moscow and from Moscow to Krakow, from March 19, 1606 to December 15, 1608 " [2]

In the Russian translation, "Description of the Journey" was first printed in Ustryalov 's collection, "Tales of Contemporaries about Dmitry the Pretender" (St. Petersburg, 1831-1834; Volume II). Researchers noted the details of False Dmitriev’s campaign in Russia (described in great detail and accurately) and reports of Marina’s entry, wedding, feasts and rebellion of the people (whom he was an eyewitness). His messages about the policy of Tsar Vasily Shuisky are not without interest. Paerle considered False Demetrius the true prince.
