Subordinated to the administrative district of Upper Franconia . Included in the Bamberg district. Subordinate to the management of the Bauna. The population is 3,942 people (as of December 31, 2010). [1] It covers an area of 30.91 km². The official code is 09 4 71 115 .
Near the town on the mountain are the ruins of the Shtufenberg Castle, which once belonged to the Dukes of Meran and was destroyed in 1552; here in the vicinity there is the chapel of St. Mary Magdalene, to which pilgrims used to flock [2] .
