Career

The first successes in biathlon came to Fred Burre Lundberg at the junior level - at the 1989 World Championship among juniors held in Hamar, Norway, together with his teammates, he won the champion title in the 3x10 km relay.

The athlete made his debut in the World Cup on January 19, 1990 in Murau , where he immediately took 2nd place in the race for the Gundersen system . A month later, on February 10, a young Norwegian won his first victory at the World Cup stage - on the Toksov springboard in a suburb of Leningrad .

In 1991, at the World Ski Championships in Italy, Lundberg became the world champion in the individual 15 km Gundersen. And also showing even results throughout the season, the athlete won the Big Crystal Globe .

The debut Olympic Games were competitions in the arenas of Albertville . Together with his teammates in Norway, Fred Burre showed the second result and received a silver medal in the team championship.

At the 1993 World Cup in Falun, the Norwegian team won the silver medal in the relay.

The biggest success came to Lundberg at the Lillehammer Home Olympics . In the team competitions, the Scandinavians took second place, losing to the Japanese in just under five minutes, and in the individual championship he became the Olympic champion, defeating the Japanese Takanori Kono and compatriot Bjarte Engen Vick .

In 1995, at the World Championships in Thunder Bay, Canada, the Norwegian won his second gold medal in individual competitions, and, like at the Olympics, he received team silver in his collection.

In 1997, he became a three-time world champion , winning the baton.

At the Nagano Olympics (1998), Fred Burre won the second gold medal in the main competitions of the four-year-old: in the team competition, the Norwegians were third after the jump part, but they were not equal in cross-country skiing and they were ahead of the Finnish national team by more than a minute. Also in 1998, the athlete was awarded the Holmenkollen medal, awarded for special merits in international sports arenas.

At the next World Championship after the Olympics in Ramsau, Austria, the Norwegians lost the Finns in the relay and became the second.

In March 2000, Fred Burre Lundberg ended his sports career. For 10 years in sports, he won nine stages of the World Cup and won all the major double-event titles.

Lundberg is the partner of the famous skier Marit Björgen . December 25, 2015 the couple had their first son, March 23, 2019 the couple had a second son.
