Kovalenko, Sergey Vladimirovich

Sergey Kovaleanko ( May 25, 1976 , Shakhty ) - Russian wrestler of the medium weight class, played for the Russian national team in Greco-Roman wrestling in the second half of the 2000s. Participant of the Summer Olympic Games in Beijing, bronze medalist of the World Championship, winner of the World Cup, silver and bronze medalist of the European Championships, winner of many international tournaments and national championships. Biography

Sergey Kovalenko was born on May 25, 1976 in the town of Shakhty, Rostov Region , but subsequently moved permanently to St. Petersburg . He began to actively engage in wrestling at the age of thirteen, and was trained under the guidance of coaches Valery Moldashev and Grigory Davidyan.

The first serious success at the international level was achieved in 2005, when he visited the European Championships in Bulgarian Varna and received a bronze medal award there. A year later, at the European Championship in Moscow, he became a silver medalist, in addition, he attended the World Championships in Guangzhou, China, where he took third place and thus won a bronze medal. Also during this period, he won the World Cup four times, won the World Olympiad among the military three times.

Thanks to a series of successful performances, he won the right to defend the country's honor at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing - in the category up to 66 kg he managed to reach the quarter-finals stage, but then he was defeated by Bulgarian award- winning Nikolai Gergov , the last world and European champion. Shortly after the Beijing Olympics, Kovalenko decided to end his career as a professional athlete, giving way to the national team for young Russian wrestlers. For outstanding sporting achievements awarded the honorary title " Master of Sports of Russia of international class ."

He has two higher educations, graduated from St. Petersburg State Economic University (2000) and St. Petersburg State Academy of Physical Culture named after PF Lesgaft (2003). Married, have a son [1] .
