Biography

Born in Istanbul on December 18, 1861 . Since 1885, he collected a collection of plants near the city, by the end of his life totaled between 15 and 25 thousand samples. Between 1897 and 1913, Aznavour published 12 scientific articles describing the plants he identified.

The Aznavour collection, housed in the Geneva Botanical Garden (G), was subsequently heavily used in the writing of Peter Hadland Davis's monograph of Flora of Turkey and the East Aegean Islands (1965-1988). Aznavour himself prepared a voluminous manuscript of the Prodrome de la flore de Constantinople , but it remained unreleased. On its basis, Bertram Post subsequently published La Flore du Bosphore et des environs , part of the work was translated into Turkish and published by Mehpara Basharman.

In addition to the plants of Istanbul personally collected by Aznavour, he was engaged in the determination of samples sent to him from other regions of Asia Minor.

Georges Vincent Aznavour died in Istanbul on November 11, 1920 . He was buried in the Christian cemetery in the area of Majidiyokoy.
