The early years

Harmen Hendrick Dijkstra was born on October 25, 1912 in the city of Zandam in the family of Hendrick Dijkstra and his wife Anna Rimersma [1] . His mother was from Amsterdam , and his father from Zandam.

Sports career

Henny Dijkstra began his football career at the club ZFK in which he played as a goalkeeper. In 1932, he made his debut for the main club.

In February 1939, Henny was first called to the Netherlands national team as a reserve goalkeeper. [2] In two friendly matches - against the Hungarians and the Belgians [3] , the gate was defended by Adri van Male . In the second leg with Belgium, Dijkstra took the place in the goal, and van Male remained in the reserve [4] [5] . The meeting took place on April 23 at the Olympic Stadium in Amsterdam and ended with the victory of the Netherlands national team - 3: 2 [6] [7] . For the last time, Henny played on May 7 against Switzerland . The guest match in Bern ended in the defeat of his team with a score of 2: 1 [8] [9] .

In 1940, Henny went to work as a policeman in Amsterdam, where he soon began playing for the local football club APSG. In the same year he returned to Zandam and continued to play for the ZFK [10] . In 1949 he completed his sports career.
