Description
The line connects the north and south of Vienna - the 21st district of Floridsdorf and the 23rd district of Leasing, respectively [1] . Moreover, most of the way roughly coincides with Gürtel . With a total length of 17.4 km and 24 stations, U6 is the longest line of the Vienna Underground. The journey time between the extreme stations - Siebenhirten and Floridsdorf - is 34 minutes. The central part of this line was built at the end of the 19th century and thus relates to the oldest part of the Vienna Underground; In the 1990s, the northern and southern sections were built, as a result of which the U6 became the second metro line reaching the northern bank of the Danube.
U6 is the only metro line in Vienna that is powered not from the third rail, but from the contact wire [2] .
Route
From Siebenhirten to Längenfeldgasse
U6 line starts at Siebenhirten Stadium in the 23rd district. From here it runs parallel to the Tristerstrasse and Altmannsdorferstrasse in a northerly direction. The next stations are the Perfectstrasse and Erläerstrasse (the latter in the immediate vicinity of the Alterlaa Stadium). There is a repair depot in the Erlärstrasse station area. In the hours of the main movement, every second train starts from here. Further, the line turns northeast and crosses Altmannsdorferstraße and the A23 motorway. At this stretch there are Am Schöpwerk, Chertlegasse, and Maidling Station (the first overhead station on this line). Next, the trains follow parallel to the main Meidling street to the Niederhofstrasse station, where they turn east - to Längenfeldgass. At the last station, you can go to line U4.
