Incidents

  • On July 4, 1989, when taking off from the airfield of Kolobrzeg on a MiG-23M aircraft of the 871th Fighter Aviation of the Pomeranian Red Banner Regiment, a pilot, head of the political department of the 239th Air Division , Colonel N. Skuridin heard the slam during the 41st second flight. in the air intake with a drop in engine speed. The pilot reported on the failure of the RP and received permission to eject, left the plane. However, 6 seconds after the pilot left the car, the engine recovered. The plane, being in the mode of stabilization of spatial position, gradually gained the height of a practical ceiling of about 12,000 meters and with a speed of about 740 km / h (wing - 16 degrees) proceeded in a westerly direction, crossed the territory of Poland and the GDR. After the aircraft had entered the airspace of the Federal Republic of Germany, an F-15 pair was raised to intercept it. Accompanied by an F-15 aircraft, the MiG-23M flew over the Federal Republic of Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium. After making the fuel, the plane went into planning. The unmanned aircraft flew a total of 901 km and fell in the vicinity of the Franco-Belgian border on a residential building in the Belgian village of Belleghem. When the plane fell, 19-year-old Belgian Wim Delare died. The cause of the failure in the engine has not been reliably established. The USSR paid Belgium compensation for the destruction of $ 685,000.
