History
The first mention of a settlement called Schönau dates back to 1395 . At that time he was the peasant inheritance of Count Hals. Since the 15th century , one of the trade routes directly passed through the Neuschönau border (this was reflected in the coat of arms of the village in the form of a golden path). In 1417, the oldest glass factory in the Grafenau district was built in the village.
Until the 19th century, Neuschönau was a major center for the production of glass. In 1896 a parish church was built. Since 1917 - an independent community. From 1978 to 1979, together with the village of St. Oswald-Riedlhütte, formed a single constituency .
