History

The idea of creating a memorial to the heroes of the Great Patriotic War was first expressed in May 2005, when the head of Nizhny Tagil, N. N. Didenko, issued a decree.

The decision to lay the Alley of Heroes and a monument to the Tagil residents on Victory Street was made in 2009. In connection with the crisis, there was not enough money in the city budget to erect the monument, and the city council raised funds for the monument through donations from Tagil residents, including those collected during charity telethon. The monument was authored by sculptor Alexander Ivanovich Ivanov and his assistants A.P. Barakhvostov and P.A. Bunkov.

The work was completed within 2 months. The monument was unveiled on May 7, 2010. A solemn rally is held annually near the Victory Day memorial.

Description

The monument is a granite stele on which a metal bowl was mounted, made in the form of a torch in a vessel. On the walls of the bowl are the tanks and laurel branches of the winners. The material for the bowl was metal from the military equipment preserved from the time of the war. On the front part of the stella there is an image of the Hero of the Soviet Union medal and a marble plaque on which the names of 27 Heroes of the Soviet Union and 8 full cavaliers of the Order of Glory - Tagil residents who distinguished themselves during the Great Patriotic War are gold-plated. The area around the monument was ennobled and tiled.
