According to the United States Census Bureau , the total area of the parish is 5,387.205 km 2 , of which 3 190.883 km 2 are land and 2 201.502 km 2 or 41,000% are water bodies.

According to the 2008 census [1] , 108,576 residents of 35,997 households and 27,393 families live in the parish. The population density is 32.00 people per km 2 . On the territory of the parish there are 39,928 residential buildings, with a building density of about 12.00 buildings per km 2 . Racial composition of the population: white - 74.07%, African - Americans - 17.79%, Native Americans ( Indians ) - 5.29%, Asians - 0.81%, Hawaiians - 0.02%, representatives of other races - 0.54 %, representatives of two or more races - 1.48%. Hispanics made up 1.56% of the population, regardless of race .
Of the total number of households , 39.20% are children under the age of 18, 57.00% of households are married couples living together, 14.10% of households are single women without a spouse, 23.90% of households households are not related to families , 19.30% of households consist of one person, 7.30% of households consist of elderly people (65 years and older) living alone. The average household size is 2.86 people and the average family size is 3.29 people.
