On July 13, 2002, he lost on points to ex-world featherweight champion Kevin Kelly . [2]
September 17, 2004 met with Jorge Solis . The match was declared invalid. [3]
Champion Fight with Rocky Juarez
On August 20, 2005, he met with Rocky Juarez in the fight for the title of interim WBC featherweight world champion. The fight lasted all 12 rounds. The judges unanimously gave the victory to Soto: 114/112 and 114/113 (twice). [4] For Juarez, this defeat was the first in his career.
Championship fight with Joan Guzman
November 17, 2007 went into battle against the world champion in the second featherweight title according to the WBO without defeat Dominican Joan Guzman . The champion won a landslide victory on points: 118/110 and 117/111 (twice). [five]
Champion Bout With Francisco Lorenzo
June 28, 2008 he met with the Dominican Francisco Lorenzo for the title of interim WBC world champion in the second featherweight title. Soto was disqualified, the winner declared Lorenzo. The decision was very controversial and the WBC did not award Lorenzo the title. [6]

On October 11, 2008, he again went on the battle for the title of interim WBC world champion in the second featherweight. This time, his opponent was the Mexican Gamaliel Diaz . Soto won a landslide victory. [7]

On December 20, 2008, a rematch took place between Soto and Lorenzo. At stake was the vacant WBC world featherweight title. Soto won on points by a wide margin: 118/108 and 117/109 (twice). [eight]
