About the album
The album has a less experimental sound, but Alan Wilder paid more attention to arrangements and samples when recording a record. Also in the compositions of the album you can hear a lot of full-fledged guitar parts. The sound and style on Music for the Masses differs significantly from Depeche Mode's previous work - the songs have an alarming and melancholic sound.
Music for the Masses led to a surge in popularity of Depeche Mode in the United States . The compositions “Strangelove”, “Never Let Me Down Again”, “Behind the Wheel” and “Little 15” have become world hits.
In support of the album, the band went on a tour of For The Masses , which became one of the largest and most successful tours of Depeche Mode. A performance in Pasadena ( California ) in 1988 was filmed and released as a video concert called 101 .
The album was reissued in Europe on April 3, 2006 , and in the USA on June 2.
