Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau , the total area of the parish is 3,993.784 km 2 , of which 3,038,073 km 2 are land and 955,711 km 2 or 24,000% are water bodies.
Population
According to the 2000 census [1] , the parish has 53,807 residents, consisting of 19,832 households and 14,457 families . The population density is 18.00 people per km 2 . On the territory of the parish there are 22,461 residential buildings, with a building density of about 7.00 buildings per km 2 . Racial composition of the population: white - 82.68%, African - Americans - 14.17%, Native Americans ( Indians ) - 0.30%, Asians - 1.82%, Hawaiians - 0.01%, representatives of other races - 0.26 %, representatives of two or more races - 0.76%. Hispanics made up 1.38% of the population, regardless of race .
Of the total number of households , 37.10% are children under the age of 18, 55.50% of households are married couples living together, 13.00% of households are single women without a spouse, 27.10% of households households are not related to families , 23.10% of households consist of one person, 10.90% of households consist of elderly people (65 years and older) living alone. The average household size is 2.67 people and the average family size is 3.16 people.
Age composition of the income: 28.10% under the age of 18, 9.40% from 18 to 24, 28.20% from 25 to 44, 20.80% from 45 to 64, and 20.80% from 65 and older. The average age of a resident of the parish is 35 years. For every 100 females there are 93.90 males . For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 89.80 males .
The average household income per household was USD 29,500, and USD 36,093 per household . The average salary of a man was 31 044 USD against 18 710 USD for a woman . The per capita income was $ 14,201. About 17.40% of families and 22.10% of the total population were below the poverty line , including 30.00% of youth (those who were not yet 18 years old) and 21.40% of those who were already over 65 years old .
