Dongdaemun ( box 동대문역 ) is the interchange station of the Seoul Metro on the Fourth Line and the First Line , represented by underground stations on both lines. It is represented by two side platforms on the First Line and one island - the Fourth . The station is served by the Seoul Metro Transportation Corporation . Located in the Changxing Dong District of the Jongnogu District of Seoul ( Republic of Korea ).

The station is named for Seoul’s "great eastern gate" located in the immediate vicinity of Dongdaemun during the reign of the Joseon Dynasty.
Passenger traffic - on the 1st line 34,446 people / day and on the 4th line 55,294 people / day (January-December 2012).
The station was opened on October 18, 1985 .
The opening of the station was combined with the opening of section 4 of the Hekhva-Sadan line 16.5 km long and 13 more stations ː Hekhva (420), Dongdaemun Historical and Cultural Park , Myung-dong , Khwekyung , Seoul , Sookmyun Women's University , Samgakji , Xionyongsan , Icheon , Dongjak , Isu (University of Cheongshin) and Sadan (433).
