Origin
Servius Sulpicius belonged to the patrician family Sulpicius . Perhaps the nickname Camerin ( Camerinus ) he received in honor of the city of Camerin ( Camerinum or Cameria ).
Biography
In ancient sources, Servius Sulpicius is mentioned only in connection with his consulate. According to Titus Libya , no major events in 500 BC. e. it wasn’t (“nothing memorable has been done”), but Dionysius of Halicarnassus reports that, as consul, Camerin discovered and stopped a conspiracy to restore royal power in Rome [1] . There is a hypothesis that in this episode the historian portrayed Catilina's plot in a caricature [2] . Manius Tullius died within a year, leaving Servius as the only consul [3] .
The author of the article “Sulpicius, a patrician clan” in the Brockhaus and Efron encyclopedic dictionary calls Servius Sulpicius the military commander, “defeating the Latins in 496 BC. at the Regillian Lake ” [4] . What this statement is based on is unknown.
Descendants
Servius Sulpicius had a son, Quintus , consul 490 BC. e.
