Anatoly Kudryavitsky was born in Moscow on Chekhov Street ^{[ specify ]} August 17, 1954 . The family of his father, an officer of the Russian fleet and a participant in the Great Patriotic War, came from Poland , although his father was born in Ukraine , in Dnepropetrovsk . Mother, a music teacher, was born in St. Petersburg , lived in Moscow. After graduating from the Moscow Medical Institute, Anatoly Kudryavitsky worked as a researcher in the field of immunology , a journalist, a literary editor in the magazines “ Knowledge is Power ”, “ Spark ”, poetry editor in the journal “ Foreign Literature ”, deputy editor-in-chief of the literary magazine “ Sagittarius ”.

In the late 1970s and early 1980s, he was one of the authors of samizdat ^[1] . His "epigrams on postcards", made at that time, are presented in the anthology "Samizdat Century". ^[2] The first story was published in 1989, the first collection of poems in 1990. In 1993 - 1995, he was a member of the poetic group of metalworkers ; Since 2009 it has been a member of the poetry group of DOOS .

A member of the Union of Writers of Moscow, the international and Irish PEN Club , in 1998 he became the founder and first president ( 1998 - 1999 ) of the Russian Poetry Society ^[3] . Since 1999, member ed. Council of the "Poet Journal" (Moscow) ^[4] .

After Emigration

In 1999, Anatoly Kudryavitsky emigrated. He lived in Frankfurt for two years, then moved to Dublin ( Ireland ), where he currently lives. From 2006 to 2009 he taught literary work at the Irish Writing Center. ^[5] In 2006, he became one of the founders of the Irish Haiku Authors Society ; in 2007 he was elected president. From the same year, he is the editor of the international haiku magazine "Shamrock" , and also edited, until 2014, the international network literary magazine in Russian Window . From 2012 to 2014, he also edited the English-language flash fiction magazine Emerald Bolts . Since March 2017, has been editing the international poetry magazine SurVision , which publishes English-language poetry of neo-surrealism .

In 2010, he was a member of the jury of the Dublin Literary Prize ^[6] .

Prose, poetry

Anatoly Kudryavitsky is the author of the novels “Stories from the Life of the Detective Myls” ( Zakharov Publishing House , 2008), The Flying Dutchman (2012, book edition 2013 ^[7] ), and The Game of Shadows on a Sunless Day (2013, book edition 2014 , publishing house "Text").

Myles Detective Stories is a satirical post-modernist novel, featuring collage elements and depicting British political life in grotesque features.

The Flying Dutchman is subtitled with a symphonic poem and is written as a mosaic of episodes. The novel takes place both in another reality, on the ship of the “flying Dutchman”, and in the real world, in the Russian province, where the main character, musicologist, writing about Wagner’s opera “The Flying Dutchman”, finds temporary refuge from the life problems that the newspaper reviewer “Book Review” describes it as a “nonsense totalitarian nightmare.” ^[8] On August 22, 2013, critic Olga Lebedushkina included the book in Literary Review with Olga Lebedushkina in the Alphabet of Reading program on Radio Culture . ^[9] She noted that

The novel takes place in the 70s of the last century, but its incredible consonance with the mood of our time is felt from the first pages. ^[ten]

The third novel by Anatoly Kudryavitsky, “The Game of Shadows on a Sunny Day”, was published in the English publishing house Glagoslav in the fall of 2013 under one cover with the story Parade of Mirrors and Reflections. ^[11] The presentation of this book, entitled "DisUNITY", took place at the Russian stand of the Frankfurt Book Fair in October 2013. ^{[12] The} Russian edition of the novel was released as a separate book in the Moscow publishing house "Text" in December 2014.

Kudryavitsky is also the author of the novels “Parade of Mirrors and Reflections” (2009) and “The Snail's Journey to the Center of the Shell” (2010), and seven books of poems in Russian, three of which are “Field of Eternal Stories” (1996), “Graffiti” ( 1998), "Book for Visitors" (2001) - came out in the publishing house " Third Wave " (Moscow - Paris - New York). Graffiti poetry book was nominated by Heinrich Sapgir for the 1998 Antibucker Prize. Speaking of the “Book for Visitors,” critics noted:

If before the ideas and images of the poet somehow fit into the traditional aesthetic coordinate axes, today he doubts the very fact of the existence of such axes. In general, any boundaries, frameworks, definitions. <...> Even the most basic, ordinary things and concepts of Kudryavitsky “pass the exam for the right to be called things” ^[13] .

The book of selected poems by Anatoly Kudryavitsky “The Wind of Green Stars” was published in the series “Poets of DOOS” (published by DOOS) in 2015. Kudryavitsky writes poetry both in Russian - since 1989, and in English - since 1992 ^{[ 14]} . The book of his English poems "Shadow of Time" ("Shadow of time") was published in 2005 in Ireland . Ibid. In 2007 and in 2011. two books of his English haiku came out: Morning at Mount Ring (Morning at Mount Ring) and Capering Moons, both at Doghouse Books , and the next haiku book was released in 2016. in the United States by Red Moon Press . The American poet Robert Wilson wrote of the first of them:

Anatoly Kudryavitsky’s haiku book is one of the best haiku books I've read in recent years. He not only writes poetry, he writes about what has been experienced and felt, drawing true pictures of life and nature with the help of shades of light and shadow ^[15] .

Kudryavitsky also edited several anthologies: “The Poetry of Silence” (contemporary Russian poetry), A&B Publishing House, 1998, Zhuzhukin's Children (Russian short story of the second half of the 20th century), UFO Publishing House, 2000, an anthology of contemporary Russian poetry translated into English the language “A Night in the Nabokov Hotel: 20 contemporary poets from Russia” (Dedalus Press, Dublin, 2006), an anthology of modern German-language poetry translated into English “Colored Handprints” (Dedalus Press, Dublin, 2015), as well as two anthologies Irish haiku: «Bamboo Dreams» (Doghouse Books , Ireland, 2012) ^[16] and «Between the Leaves» (Arlen House , D Shoot, 2016).

Translations

Anatoly Kudryavitsky began translation activities in 1983 . In his translations, “poetic in his tragedy” was published, which Joseph Conrad praised him highly ^[17] , John Galsworthy ’s novel “Jocelyn”, as well as William Somerset Maugham ’s novel “Villa on the Hill,” books by Arthur Conan Doyle and Stephen Lycock , A complete collection of poems by Stephen Crane , “Lyric” and “One Hundred Poems” by Emily Dickinson , “Selected Poems” by Jim Morrison , “Anthology of Imagism ”, as well as poems by contemporary Irish, English and American poets. In his translation into English, anthologies of Russian, Ukrainian and German poetry were published. He also translated poems from Polish and Swedish poets into English.

Anatoly Kudryavitsky - laureate of the Irish Poetry Prize named after Mary Edgeworth (2003). In 2005, he entered the short list of the Robert Graves Poetry Award (Great Britain - Ireland) . Laureate of the magazine “Children of Ra” in the category “poetry” (2006) and the magazine “Zinziver” in the category of “prose” (2010). In 2007, he became a laureate of the Capoliveri International Prize of Poetry, Italy ( Capoliveri Premio Internazionale di Poesia ). In 2008, he was awarded the Literary Excellence Award (Japan). ^[18] . In 2010, he was awarded the David Burliuk International Mark , in 2012 in 2014. - Vladimir Davide Prize (Croatia) ^[19] , ^[20] . In 2017, he became a laureate of the International Poetry Prize named after Mihai Eminescu (Romania). ^[21]
