Lutry is a suburb of Lausanne . Located on the Swiss Riviera , in the canton of Vaud in the Lavaux-Oron district. The population is 9.5 thousand inhabitants (2013). Known since 908. The main attractions: the castle of the XV — XVI centuries, the church of Saint-Martin XIII — XVI centuries. In the vicinity are the terraced vineyards of Lavaux .

Geography
Located on the north shore of Lake Geneva , the city of Lutry is part of the Lavaux region. Located about 5 km from the center of Lausanne , it is part of its agglomeration. The suburb is crossed by the river Lutriv, which flows into the lake.
History
The first traces of human life in the area of Lutry belong to the Neolithic period (4500 to 4000 BC. E.). There is a neolithic structure of 24 menhirs , of which 18 still have a vertical position. They were discovered in 1984 during the construction of a parking lot.
In the ancient period a Roman military camp and the fishing village Lustriacum were built here.
In the XI century, Benedictine monks settled in Lutry and built a monastery here.
Later, in the 13th century, a wall and two towers were erected. One of them was destroyed in 1708, the other has survived to the present day.
In 1536, during the Reformation , the monastery was destroyed. The castle has also been transformed into its current form.
In 1824, the two villages of Lutry and Savigny were divided into two different municipalities. In 1836, the old port was built. In 1854, the owner of Lutry Castle (Just Charles Antoine de Crousaz) transferred the castle to the city.
In 1948, the Kurtino beach was built on Lake Geneva. After 1950, the village grew significantly with an increase in the number of inhabitants, from 3,500 in 1960 to 5,860 in 1980. In 1998, a new port was built to meet growing needs.
