Biography
Ligia Fagundes Telles was born in 1923 in Sao Paulo to an employee family, who, by the nature of her work, had to move very often from place to place.
Ligia studied at the gymnasium, read a lot, started to write herself early. The first collection of her stories was published shortly after she entered the university. It was called "Live Beach" (1944), followed by another one - "Red Cactus" (1949), and two novels.
Then, over two decades, the 60-80s, eight more collections of short stories and two novels were published.
Ligia Fagundes Telles won almost all of Brazil’s most significant literary awards. She has won the National Book Institute Award, Brazilian PEN Club, Critics, Brazilian Academy, Guimaraens Roza, Boa Leytura Award . She is one of the most widely read proseikov of the country.
She is a lawyer, and by education and occupation, she lives in Rio de Janeiro, works at the State Forecasting Institute.
